A short story of how a small secondary school in South Mozambique became xyztec’s donation partner
A big project that has been planned since summer 2023 has now been implemented after an intensive period of preparation.
For a year now, xyztec has been taking back PCs and monitors from customers and partners that were no longer in use on site but were still fully functional. All of this equipment, which also included high-quality wireless keyboards and mice, was used to set up a computer cabinet for pupils whose access to such IT lessons is limited.
A secondary school in the south of Mozambique (Ilha Josina Machel, Maputo Province) became our donation partner and, in addition to the PC workstations, received a substantial inventory of 13 former laboratory tables, each with space for several students.
The school was carefully selected by the Macamo family, who had already donated several school desks and tables to schools in rural areas of southern Mozambique in 2010, thus helping children to receive a better education. We were able to collect a total of eight PCs with i3 and i5 processors with monitors, which were shipped by container freight in April 2024 and received in the port of Maputo in July.
To ensure long-term and reliable work, xyztec has chosen the Linux-based operating system Ubuntu instead of Microsoft Windows, as it can be modified and upgraded at any time. For this reason, we set up the computer room together with the school’s IT teacher.
As XYZTEC, we have now set up a fully equipped computer cabinet with which we are helping to teach Mozambican pupils computer skills and promote their IT and media knowledge.
We inaugurated the computer room in a ceremonial handover, to which parents, local leaders and the pupils themselves were invited. Political officials such as the mayor and the district administrator of the province of Manhiça also attended this event, which was accompanied by the press.
